If you need some German sweet treat fast here’s a recipe for German Cherry Muffins. You just need cherries fresh or from the jar, alternatively use blueberries or raspberries. ALDI and Trader Joe’s normally carriy the German sour cherries. Happy Baking!
250 g flour
100 g sugar
120 g butter, 1 stick
3 eggs
125 ml milk
2 tsp baking powder
1 package – 0.5oz- vanilla sugar
150 g cherries, fresh cherries or sour cherries from the jar, de-pitted
powdered sugar, optional
sugar glaze, optional
– Combine in a bowl sugar, vanilla sugar, eggs and butter.
– With a hand mixer beat until smooth.
– Mix flour with baking powder, alternating with milk add to the dough.
– When the dough is creamy fill it into a muffin tray that had been layered with paper muffins forms. Make sure not to fill the entire form.
– Drain cherries from jar.
– De-pit fresh cherries.
– Press the cherries gently into the dough.
– Pre-heat oven to 320 F or 160 (convection, non-convection is 350F).
– Bake for 15-20 min.
When muffins have cooled off dust with powdered sugar if you like or make a glaze out of powdered sugar and some lemon juice.
