This German Hazelnut Cake is very easy to make! If you don’t have much time this is the cake to make. You can use a loaf bread form, a bundt cake or round wreath from, all the forms are suitable (see on the bottom). It’s a delicious cake when combined  with a chocolate glaze. Happy Baking!

Ingredients German Hazelnut Cake

250 g butter, very soft
170 g sugar
4 eggs
1 dash salt
250 g flour, all purpose, unbleached
1 package baking powder, 0.5oz
250 g ground hazelnuts or alternatively a mix of ground walnuts and almonds
⅛ liter milk
flour or breadcrumbs for the form
powdered sugar
1 pound cake form, 10 inches or Bundt Cake form


Baking Instructions German Hazelnut Cake

  • Pre-heat oven to 350 F.
  • Combine butter with eggs and beat until bubbly.
  • Mix flour with baking powder.
  • Add all remaining ingredients to the dough.
  • Beat with hand mixer for 2-3 min on high speed.
  • Layer the form with parchment paper or grease with butter and sprinkle completely with flour or bread crumbs.
  • Place dough into the form.
  • Bake for 60-70 min or less depending on the oven. Do the test with a knitting needle or a knife: Poke into cake and see if no dough will stick anymore, then the cake is ready.
  • Let cake cool off before releasing it from the form.
  • Place cake on a cooling rack. When completely cooled off sprinkle with powdered sugar.You can also make a glaze by melting chocolate or combine powdered sugar with lemon juice.
