This simple German Cherry Streusel Cake is very easy to make. You need sour cherries which you can find at ALDI, Lidl or Trader Joes and other international supermarkets. If you want to use fresh cherries use the dark ones and you must de-pit them. Happy Baking!

Ingredients German Cherry Streusel Cake

250 g flour
half sachet baking powder (8g)
zest from 1 lemon, organic, alternatively natural lemon flavor
1 egg yolk
125 g sugar
150 g butter, soft
2 sachets vanilla sugar
1 jar sour cherries (Morello)
powdered sugar for dusting, optional

Baking Instructions German Cherry Streusel Cake

– Knead the very soft butter with all other ingredients until you get a crumbly dough (Streusel). Use the hands or kneading hooks of the hand mixer.
– Layer a springform 26 cm or 10 inches with parchment paper.
– Use half of the dough and fill on bottom of the spring form, press gently down and make an edge around the rim.
– Drain the cherries.
– Preheat oven to 350 F (200C)
– Place cherries on the dough.
– Sprinkle remaining Streusel on top.
– Bake for 30 min.
– When cake is done you can dust it with powdered sugar.
