warm beer recipes
The Germans drink beer not only on a hot summer’s day, ice cold in the shade of a Biergarten. Beer can be warmed and then it is the drink for a cold winter’s night. In our German beer recipes the beer will be enjoyed warm, and it is blended with spices, milk and eggs. Some say it is helping when suffering with a flue; some say it is just a tradition. There is a saying in Germany: When you are in a restaurant and get warm beer and cold food, this would equal poor service, – nevertheless warm beer can be a remedy! Happy Cooking!
Warmbier or Warm Beer
1 Liter dark beer (Altbier)
sugar to taste
1 cinnamon stick
peel of 1 organic lemon
2 egg yolk
250 ml heavy cream
– Bring beer with sugar, cinnamon and lemon peel (not grated, just the cut off peel) to a boil.
– Remove cinnamon and lemon peel.
– Mix egg yolks with heavy cream, heat it but don’t bring it to a boil! Stir continuously.
– Mix beer with the cream and serve hot.
Old Love (Alte Liebe)
1 bottle light beer, Pilsener (0,5l)
1 tsp sugar
1/2 stick white cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp lemon peel
2 egg yolk
– In a pan heat beer with sugar, cinnamon, lemon peel and ginger.
– Beat egg yolks until foamy.
– Add the hot beer while stirring, don’t let it boil, just heat it and serve it hot.

Because you will have some egg whites you can make macaroons out of them!
