If you are looking for a delicious, easy to make cake for your Sunday afternoon Kaffee and Kuchen time, here’s the recipe for a German Chocolate Pound Cake. As you can see it’s simple and can be made within a short time. Happy Baking!
125 g butter
150 g sugar
1 sachet vanilla sugar
– How to Make Vanilla Sugar –
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
60 g semi sweet chocolate or unsweetened cocoa
125 ml milk
½ tsp cinnamon, ground
½ package baking powder
250 g flour
– Butter should be very soft, so you can beat it until bubbly.
– Separate eggs.
– Combine the egg yolks with sugar and butter, beat for 1-2 minutes.
– Pre-heat oven to 175 C or 350 F.
– If you use chocolate, melt it with the milk on low heat.
– Combine with cinnamon, vanilla extract and add to the egg mix.
– Beat egg whites until firm.
– Combine baking powder with flour, add to the dough, mix well, then with a spatula mix in the egg whites.
– Layer a pound cake form (30cm) with parchment paper. Alternatively you could use a 26cm round spring form.
– Fill in the dough.Spread even on top.
– Bake on the middle rack for about 1 hour.
When cake is done let it cool off on a rack.
Variations
When completely cooled off you can dust it
– with powdered sugar,
– a thin layer of cocoa or
– some melted chocolate.
– Add some chocolate chips to the dough before filling the form.
– Combine with some sour cherries from the jar.
– For a winter edition add cardamom, and some Lebkuchen spice.
