1 egg
80 g almond flour
200 g butter
50 g powdered sugar

3 tbsp red jam, preferably red currant jelly

1 cookie cutter heart shaped

Baking Instructions German Valentines Day Cookies

For the Dough
– Cut butter in cubes.
– Place butter cubes and all ingredients for the dough on a baking board.
– The best is to use the hands to knead it (have hands dusted with flour) until you get a smooth dough.
– Wrap dough in plastic wrap and place it at least for 30 minutes in the fridge.

– For the cookies roll the dough 2mm (less than 1/4 inch, so quite thin) and with a heart shaped cookie cutter cut about 50 hearts out of the dough;
– Take half of the cookies and with the end of a wooden spoon cut out a hole in the middle or use a small heart shaped cookie cutter. The hole should not be too small, about 1 inch diameter.
– Bake all cookies in pre-heated oven for about 8- 10 minutes on 160  C or 330 F.
– When done let them cool off.

Filling
For the filling mix Amaretto with the jam and bring to a brief boil, then add the soft marzipan. Mix well with a fork; it should be spreadable.
If you use a jam that has seeds, like raspberry or strawberry, squeeze the jam first through a sieve to remove all seeds.
– Per heart use 1 tsp filling and spread a thin layer on half of the cookies (the ones without the hole).

– Dust the cookies with the hole with powdered sugar, do this before you place them on top of the other cookie.
– Place on each cookie a heart cookie with a hole.
